    Before completing the following inventory, KNOW that you can make changes that drastically and significantly affect the myriad aspects of your life.  It is not just that others can do this:  YOU can do this!  Take, for example, wanting to increase self-esteem and self-confidence:  YOU can do this!  Consider, for example, wanting to better manage your anger or your stress:  YOU can do this!  Or, answer the inventory below, choosing some other area in which you would like to experience change in your life.

    The following brief inventory is designed to assess where you presently stand regarding this issue of choice and the desire to change.  To determine this as it pertains specifically to you, all you need to do is answer the following 3 questions:

 

1.  How much do you want to change?

3.  Are your two positions comparable?


   
  For example, if it is extremely important to you to accomplish your goal -- you would have indicated this by marking a "10" on #1-- did you mark #2 at a "9" or a "10"? Doing so would indicate that you are willing to invest a great deal to accomplish this very important goal.

    Or, if you marked #1 as a "5" (you want it a moderate amount), did you mark #2 as a "4" to "6" (you can give a limited amount of resources to accomplishing your goal)?

    Marking these two scales in these ways is being realistic and consistent.  Success at whatever you choose to pursue requires a realistic, consistent outlook!

   

DETERMINING WHAT TO CHANGE

     The best means possible to fine-tune your focus on deciding what to change is to use something you already possess.  It is found within you.  

    Inside each of us is an "inner sense."  This "inner sense" combines with our feelings.  Have you ever gone into a room where you had never been before and felt a sense of uneasiness?  Have you ever experienced the sense of "being at home" when someone you loved dearly enfolded you in his/her arms in a hug?  These are examples of this inner feeling sense to which I refer.  

    One of the best ways to determine what you would benefit most from changing is to pay attention inside yourself -- to listen to your own feelings of subtle, or profound, dissatisfaction about some elements in your life.  You can use this sense of being ill-at-ease to indicate where to start to focus your energies for change.  

    Just simply ask yourself this question:  What would you like to have be different in your life?    Now list your answers below:
